Sanjay Prasad Paudel
Once upon a time , during my college days , I used to go to Kathmandu for my summer holidays. Kathmandu was a very cheap place to spend my holidays because I did not have to pay for lodging and fooding because there were my relatives who lived in Kathmandu for years. I , sometimes, lived with my friends because there was more freedom than that of relatives such as watching movies, talking about politics , and the like. I usually left room at summer evening and had tea with friends at New Baneshwar. ” It is very hot” , said I after returning to room. My friend said, ” It is not very hot.I will show you tomorrow evening at Baneshwar If I find the hot is growing up.”
” Why Baneshwar? Why not here? Why tomorrow? Why not today?” , I answered back.
” There is always a beautiful moment to watch something beautiful. And, for those moments, one must keep patience.” , he said.
I would try to relate the meaning of hot summer and his beautiful moment. When not getting success I felt some anxiety. Days passed . One day …. two day ….. and weeks were gone. I asked him ,” Did summer come?” He said looking at people on Baneshwar street, ” Not my baby yet!” I astonished myself what he meant? On one summer evening , he blinked his eyes and yelled out, ” Sanjay! Summer came! Summer came!It is really brilliant and beautiful! Now the temperature of Kathmandu grows up.”
” How do you know that the temperature grows up?”
” Look at those girls! Look at them!”
I was from country. I studied at RRM campus Janakpur . The college girls used to wear cotton sari as college uniform. They were very much civilized. I had never seen girls in shirt and pant. The girls in village used to wear Kurtha Suruwal. But here I saw the girls in half pant and tiny clothes on their breasts. The clothes were nearly transparent. When we looked at such kind of girls we said ourselves summer came! The temperature of Kathmandu grew up! But I don’t think that those moments were not beautiful ! I still remember the brilliant idea of my friend to measure the temperature of Kathmandu. Those moments were beautiful.
